Xastir-hold
X Amateur Station Tracking and Information Reporting.
Xastir is program for receiving and plotting APRS(tm) position packets. Development is a collaborative effort of programmers from around the world. Xastir supports many map formats and is highly customizable. The "official" Xastir site is here.
This site is dedicated to running Xastir on OS X. I haved archived the prior page here. If you are looking for information regarding how to build Xastir please give it a read.
Now for the good news: Xastir 1.8.1 binary has now been released. Click here to download Xastir for PPC based Macs, Click here to download Xastir for Intel based Macs.
Important Note: This version of Xastir will only run on OS X 10.4 "Tiger" or better. If you are looking for a version to run on older version of OS X please drop me an email.
What's new?
This latest version of Xastir for OS X is a completely new build. All the associated libraries have been built from source. Where possible they have also been built Universal (the OS X term for running on both the PPC and Intel processors). The eventual goal is to have a Universal version of Xastir. Since I have taken the time to build all the dependancies I no longer need Fink. Therefore everything has been built in /usr/local rather than in /sw. If you are migrating from an older version of Xastir and you built it from my original instructions or are using an earlier binary it will be necessary to move any maps or other items you may have loaded. Please contact me and I will tell you what to do.

The future...
- rewrite the installer so it determines which platform and installs the appropriate version
- do more version and OS checking before installing
- add an upgrade/migration option during install to move maps and other data from earlier binary installs
- create a true Universal version of Xastir
'73 and enjoy
